Abstract

Two 15-wcck growth experiments on 15.000 juvenile (0.7-1.0 g) blue shrimp (Penaeus stylirostris) were conducted in five 30-m; floating cages (3.000 juvcnilcs/cagc) in an estuary near Kino. Sonora, Mexico, during spring and fall 1981. At the spring harvest, individual shrimp weight, percent survival, and yield averaged (±SD) 5.65 + 0.20 g, 31.84 ± 3.07%. and 201.8 ± 18.3 g/m2. respectively. At the fall harvest, individual weight, percent survival, and yield were 8.34 ± 0.21 g, 45.28 ± 3.35%. and 441.3 ± 25.5 g/m2, respectively. The mean spring temperature was 22.3°C and the mean fall temperature was 25°C.
