Abstract

The effect of radius disorder on complete and incomplete photonic band gaps are investigated. The incomplete gap of a two-dimensional hexagonal photonic crystal of air cylinders are considered for the TM electromagnetic modes. It was found that the introduction of disorder into a photonic crystal leads to modification the transmission spectra. For the complete photonic band gap with TE polarization, the spectra was found to be less sensitive to the disorder and that a critical ordering is required before transmission changes. The influence of random vacancies was also investigated.
