Abstract

The effluent produced by the seafood industry especially stickwater is the main source of pollution in seas where these industries have been established. Therefore, there are currently several processes for treatment, which covers physical, chemical and biological methods. Currently, efforts are being made in both: stickwater treatment as well as the recovery of solids from it that can be reinstated to the fishmeal, or from which, bioactive compounds can be extracted. This paper gives an overview about the pollution that these effluents cause when discharged directly into the sea without prior treatment, and made a synthesis of studies aimed at the treatment and use of solids in the effluents produced by the seafood industry.
