Abstract

This paper presents the conclusions of the case study of two cities of sun and beach tourism. The first of them, Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, a young city - less than a hundred years of foundation - nestled in the Mexican northwest. The second, Roses - millenary settlement - located at the Spanish Costa Brava. Given the apparent differences, both share the border status in their respective countries. They are both cities of sun and beach tourism, and migrant receivers in search of employment in services, commerce or construction industry related to tourism activity. However, they are also cities with large colonies of second residences. Thus, different ways of inhabiting these cities are exposed through the study of imaginary and daily itineraries.
In order to reveal the inhabited city, the analysis of the imagined city has been essential - the one that provides dreams and expectations, based on memory, and the other, described and drawn by its inhabitants. Mainly the instruments used were the semi-structured interview and the analysis of routes sketches.
