Judd-Ofelt analysis and energy transfer mechanism in LiNbO 3:Er 3+ single crystals

Abstract

In this paper the optical properties (absorption, emission and excitation spectra) of an erbium-doped Lithium Niobate (LiNbO 3:Er) single crystal are presented. From the optical absorption measurements the Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters for f-f transitions of the Er ions were determined and the theoretical values for the oscillator strengths of the optical transitions of the impurity ions calculated in the 350-850nm range. In our single crystal an effective energy transfer between the oxide host and the erbium ions is observed and discussed.
