Resumen
The specific purpose of this project was to establish the technical feasibility of the construction of a 4 kW-fhermal parabolic solar concentrator using older dish antenna technology. Two main problems were addressed: the reflecting surface and the solar tracking system. As a reflecting surface a flexible film (Vinyl-aluminum) was used, which is easy to buy locally. The spectral optical properties were evaluated for this film. The specular reflection and the normal transmittance were spectrally measured in a range from 450 to 900nm for reflectance, and from 450 to 3000nm for transmittance. We found that the mean value of reflectance was 85%, and the mean value of transmittance was 1%. These are good values for this project.
