En este capítulo se hace una revisión de los estudios sobre genética de poblaciones y filogeografía de la biota del estado de Sonora y se presenta un resu - men del conocimiento actual . Se recopilan trabajos sobre aproximadamente cien especies que incluyen organismos patógenos , plantas , invertebrados , peces dulceacuícolas , anfibios , reptiles , aves y mamíferos y se describen algunos de los patrones generales que se han detectado en la región . Para el caso de plantas , varios estudios han detectado que la diversidad genéti - ca disminuye con la latitud . Para el caso de varias espe - cies de anfibios , reptiles , mamíferos y aves , la estructu - ra filogeográfica muestra divisiones creadas por el Golfo de California y la Sierra Madre Occidental . ABSTRACT . In this chapter , we review studies on the population genetics and phylogeography of the biota from the state of Sonora and provide a summary about our current knowledge . Studies about one hundred species that include pathogenic microorganisms , plants , invertebrates , freshwater fishes , amphibian , reptiles , birds and mammals are compiled and some of the gen - eral patterns that have emerged in the region are sum - marized . For plants , several studies have detected that genetic diversity declines with latitude . For several amphibian , reptilian , mammalian and bird species , the phylogeographic structure exhibit clear divisions cre - ated by the Gulf of California and the Sierra Madre Occidental .
