Resumen

Every human productive activity at the social and economic level involves a set of risk factors that we can control or minimize. Personal protective clothing (PPC) is safety support for civilians and industrial workers. Also, PPC can increase productivity and reduce injuries to the user. However, its production and final disposition are an environmental problem, especially if it comes from nonrenewable sources. Therefore, fabrics that are friendly to the environment should be considered, following the advancement of new technologies, and the legal and technical requirements. This chapter on protective clothing describes the performance requirements as well as the designs of textiles from natural resources to provide protection against physical (sun damage, abrasion, flame, thermal, nuclear hazards, electrical burns), chemical (chemicals, pesticides), and biological (microorganisms, viruses) agents that could be in contact with civilians and specialist industrial workers.
