Resumen

Juvenile criminality has recently been on the increase. Given these higher rates, this study aim was to analyze the effects of legitimacy perception, deterrence, and prosocial attitudes related to antisocial behavior of adolescents. Sample included 100 Mexican lower and upper secondary students. Questionnaires assessed demographics, legitimacy perception, deterrence, personal norm, injunctive norm, punishment beliefs, future orientation, antisocial acts and probability of antisocial behavior. a structural model was tested. Legitimacy perception had a direct and positive effect on deterrence and the latter on antisocial behavior. We expected a direct effect of prosocial attitudes on antisocial behavior; however, this effect was not significant. Prosocial attitudes were also associated with deterrence. Results suggest the importance of government conditions for adolescents' law compliance.
