The case study presented in this article analyses the meanings of poverty constructed from the masculine experiences of deported ex-migrants who are currently homeless and identifies the future projections that are elaborated in the precariousness of the context. The participants in this research are seven men who attend a humanitarian aid shelter in Hermosillo, capital of Sonora (Mexico). From a qualitative approach, the technique selected was the semi-structured interview for its suitability in inducing meanings, senses and experiences. The results show the needs and meanings associated with the consolidation of the problem based on social exclusion. A life projection is proposed without incorporating an active role of agency, which generates a "living the present" from positivism and faith. We conclude with the need to incorporate gender in the analysis of extreme poverty, as an axis for understanding the street situation, as well as aspects such as the meanings of well-being and the life trajectory (with biographical aspects) for the compilation of meanings and experiences regarding new social processes on the northern border of the country with a view to social intervention.
