Resumen

We have studied the transmission of gaussian pulses of light through a semiconducting film whose dielectric response depends on the wavevector, as well as on the frequency. The temporal behavior of the emerging wave packet strongly depends on the carrier frequency and width of the incident pulse and on the thickness of the thin film. These parameters determine whether the transient response is approximately gaussian, or Airy function-like, or exhibits beats, or has a complex structure. The oscillation transient phenomenon predicted by D.L. Johnson (Phys. Rev. Lett. 41 (1978) 417) is confirmed by an exact numerical calculation, and conditions of observability are discussed. For pulses of sufficiently great spectral width a novel beat phenomenon has been found.
